The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS)’ colleges of medicine, nursing, public health and health professions were recently recognized by U.S. News & World Report as among the best graduate schools in the country. Designed for prospective students looking to further their education beyond college, the Best Graduate School rankings evaluate programs based on academic data collected from schools via surveys and third-party sources.
The UAMS College of Medicine continued to climb the rankings, earning 17th place overall in primary care, up from 36th last year. In a reflection of UAMS’ ongoing push to improve primary care in rural and medically needy areas of Arkansas, the medical school also placed 18th in serving rural areas, fourth in serving medically needy areas and 24th in producing the most primary care graduates.
Furthermore, the annual list of top graduate schools also ranked the UAMS College of Nursing’s Doctor of Nursing Practice program 66th. Regarding other healthcare disciplines, UAMS’ Physician Assistant Studies program, part of the College of Health Professions, was ranked 65th nationally, also moving up from previous years. The UAMS Fay W. Boozman College of Public Health was also listed among the nation’s top graduate schools, placing 92nd this year.
The University of Colorado School of Medicine continues to rank among the top 10 medical schools in the country for primary care, according to numbers released today by U.S. News and World Report. In its annual Best Medical Schools report, the magazine ranked the CU School of Medicine number 6 for primary care and number 27 in research. Three specialties at the CU School of Medicine are listed among the best: Pediatrics ranked number 7; family medicine ranked number 10; and surgery ranked number 23.
The Colorado School of Public Health also ranks among the top 20 schools and programs of public health in the nation. It moved up one space to tie for 19th out of 195 Master of Public Health programs accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH). Additionally, the CU College of Nursing's masters program ties for 23rd best out of almost 600 programs.
The University of Maryland School of Medicine (UMSOM) has been named among the top medical schools for primary care training in the new 2024 U.S. News & World Report rankings. The school was named a Tier 1 institution, which places it among the top 15 institutions in the nation for primary care training. Instead of numerical rankings, U.S. News is now grouping medical schools into four tiers, and those institutions in the top tier were in the 85th percentile or higher of medical schools ranked.
