Germyce Williams, M.EdL Educator. Advocate. Coach. I'm a former teacher and life-long Philadelphian. My passion for diversity, equity and inclusion in medical school admissions was spurred long before DEI became mainstream. Hearing story after story from students about their dream of becoming a physician yet unable to find guidance and support compelled me to do this work. "It is not our lack of ability its the lack of access and opportunity."
Ms. Germyce really helped me ..... She was a mentor, strategist, and encourager. She provided an assessment of my profile as an applicant: the academic strengths that set me apart, the unique experiences that illustrated my passion, and the areas of improvement to reinforce. The anchoring question she keenly focused on was “who is Nicole?” This comprehensive and personalized approach allowed me to create a clear and consistent narrative throughout my personal statement, essays and activities. Her expertise, attention to detail and commitment is unmatched.
As a non-traditional student, Ms. Germyce showed me how to view my life experience as an asset to my future patients and use it to my advantage. Through the mock interview session, I learned verbal and non-verbal communication techniques that enabled me to connect with my interviewers and thoughtfully answer unexpected questions.
The Program in Liberal Medical Education prepares University students — from first-year undergraduates to fourth-year medical school students — over eight years for a career in medicine and offers academic support throughout the process. Admitted PLME students are guaranteed admission to the Warren Alpert Medical School following completion of their undergraduate education at Brown. Admission is highly selective: 74 out of over 4100 PLME applicants for the undergraduate class of 2027 were accepted.
Brown Pre Med Majors – Applied Mathematics-Biology. The Applied Math – Biology concentration recognizes that mathematics is essential to address many modern biological problems in the post genomic era. Specifically, high throughput technologies have rendered vast new biological data sets that require novel analytical skills for the most basic analyses.
Summer@Brown is the largest of our Pre-College Programs, and attracts nearly 4,000 exceptionally high-achieving and motivated students each summer. They enroll in one or more of the 200+ courses, which are designed and taught at the level of first-year college courses, and ranging in length from one to four weeks. Coupled with an experience of independent living on a university campus alongside a diverse group of otherwise like-minded peers, Summer@Brown is designed to acquaint students with the social and personal demands they will encounter as first year students at a selective college or university.
