About MedEdCentral

MedEdCentral.org is a unique international database in medical education. The database may be accessed by anyone. Built around the Wiki principle with collaborative authorship, registered users may contribute directly to the website and may also suggest new entries.

MedEdCentral entries are classified using the following types of category:

  • Books published on relevant topics
  • Concepts in education - for example, problem based learning, summative assessment
  • Conferences, conference reviews/reports and conference proceedings
  • Courses in medical and healthcare professions education
  • Journals published in medical and healthcare professions education
  • Medical schools
  • Organisations: including professional and governmental bodies and institutions (for example AMEE, WHO)
  • Published Reports/Papers, for example Tomorrow’s Doctors (GMC, 2002); World Directory of Medical Schools (WHO, 2000)
  • Other (not included in list of categories).

Each entry has a number of fields relating to that entry, including:

  • title and categorisation,
  • description,
  • see also (links to other entries in the MedEdCentral database relevant to the entry)
  • links to websites relevant to the entry,
  • reports/publications (relevant to the topic),
  • individuals (key to the entry),
  • related associations or professional bodies,
  • further information.

Comments, related to an entry, are welcomed and should be added within the appropriate fields of that entry.

MedEdCentral will offer a global perspective and reflect the international dimensions of medical education.

MEDINE

MedEdCentral.org has been developed as an online database of medical education information by the Association for Medical Education in Europe (AMEE) www.amee.org in collaboration with MEDINE

MEDINE, the Thematic Network on Medical Education in Europe, addressed educational, institutional and quality issues in European medical education and was supported by the European Community. For further information see http://www.bris.ac.uk/medine/

MEDINE comprised five Task Forces:

  • International Recognition of Qualifications Task Force
  • Quality Assurance Standards Task Force
  • Transparency & Public Understanding of Medical Education Task Force
  • Links between Medical Education and Research Task Force.
